Is this a dashboard?
No. Dashboards show fixed reports. The Usual Accountant lets you ask accounting questions in plain language and get answers from your Tally data.
Will this change my Tally data?
No. The connection is read-only. Tally entries are not modified.
Does Tally need to stay open all the time?
No. Tally needs to be open only while a sync is running, so the latest figures reach the cloud. Once a sync is done you can ask questions from anywhere, even with Tally and the PC closed. The answers reflect the data as of the last sync, so run a sync whenever you want the most recent numbers.
Do I have to use ChatGPT or Claude?
No. The Usual Accountant works with ChatGPT, Claude, your organisation’s internal AI environment, or any MCP-compatible AI assistant.
What does it cost?

What is the Windows app/companion?
A small background app that runs on the same Windows PC as Tally Prime. It opens an outbound connection to The Usual Accountant cloud, so the assistant can read accounting data when an authorised user asks a question. The app is read-only. It never writes back to Tally, never opens any inbound port, and runs quietly in the system tray. Installation is a regular per-user Windows installer, no admin rights required.
