How to get your Tally reports on your phone

13 June 20264 min read

Tally Prime runs on a Windows computer in your office. That makes it hard to check a balance or a sales figure when you are away from your desk. With a synced read only copy of your books, you can ask for any figure from your phone, at any time.

Why Tally is stuck on one computer

Tally was built to run on a desktop. The data lives on that machine. To see a report you normally have to be at the computer, open Tally, and pull the report by hand. If you are travelling or out with a customer, you are out of luck until you get back.

The fix is a synced copy you can reach from anywhere

The Usual Accountant keeps a read only copy of your books in a private, encrypted, India hosted cloud workspace. Once your data is synced, you can ask questions about it from your phone, your laptop, or any device, through an AI assistant you connect. Tally does not need to be open and the office computer can be off.

What you can check from your phone

  • The closing balance of any party or ledger.
  • Sales or purchases for a day, a month, or a custom period.
  • Outstanding receivables and who owes you the most.
  • Stock position for an item.
  • A quick figure for a GST return.

Keeping the figures current

The answers you get reflect your most recent sync. When new entries are added in Tally, run a sync from the Windows app so the latest numbers reach your phone. Everything synced so far stays available to you from anywhere, even between syncs.

It stays read only

You are only reading your books from your phone. Nothing you ask changes anything inside Tally. Your accountant keeps working in Tally exactly as before.
