How to connect Tally Prime to AI, step by step

You can ask an AI assistant questions about your Tally Prime books and get answers in seconds. This guide explains how the connection works and how to set it up from scratch.

What you are actually connecting

Your Tally Prime runs on a Windows computer in your office. An AI assistant like Claude or ChatGPT runs in the cloud. The two cannot talk to each other on their own. The Usual Accountant sits in the middle. A small Windows app reads from your Tally, sends a read only copy to a private and encrypted cloud account, and the AI assistant you choose reads from that copy when you ask a question.

Nothing is written back into Tally. The app only reads. Your books stay exactly as your accountant left them.

The steps

• Create an account at theusualaccountant.com and complete the short onboarding form.
• Download the Windows app and install it on the computer that runs Tally Prime.
• Pair the app with your account using the code shown on screen. This links your computer to your private cloud workspace.
• Open the company in Tally and run your first sync from the app. The app reads your vouchers, ledgers, and masters and uploads the read only copy.
• Connect your AI assistant. The Usual Accountant works with any assistant that supports the Model Context Protocol, including Claude and ChatGPT.
• Ask your first question. For example, what is the closing balance of this party, or show me last month sales.

What happens after the first sync

Once your data is synced, Tally does not need to stay open and your office computer can be off. You can ask questions about your synced books from your phone or any device, at any time. When you add new entries in Tally, run a sync again so the latest figures are available to the AI.

Is it safe
